I live in the United Kingdom and I'm a retired IT manager. I worked for a global company for 39 years, the last 36 of those in technology.
I've worked in 1st, 2nd and 3rd line IT Support, Systems Development, Project Management, Infrastructure Deployment and, for the last 12 years of my career, in Cyber Security.
Perhaps more importantly, I've been involved in Mental Health (MH) support for a number of years. At work I was a founding member of the MH Forum, which organised events on a wide range of topics, with internal and external speakers.
Having suffered with depression since I was a child - diagnosed with PTSD and mild Borderline Personality Disorder - it's important to me to spread awareness of MH issues and encourage people to be more supportive of each other.
As to why I'm here on Medium, here's a quote from the writer Alan Moore:
"This brings us to what is perhaps the most majestic power of art and writing. If we see an experience we thought was uniquely ours in a painting, film or novel, we feel less alone. And that is very possibly the ultimate purpose of all art and writing."
Sometimes, all we need is to know there is someone else like us out there.
